Sonal S. Shah, DDS, is a board-certified oral pathologist and currently an associate professor at the University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV) School of Dental Medicine. In addition to teaching students/residents and signing out surgical pathology cases in the UNLV Oral Pathology Biopsy Service, Shah is a very active clinician and diagnoses and treats patients with a wide range of oral lesions and diseases in the UNLV Faculty Dental Practice. She is also a clinical researcher and is currently involved in projects for the use of salivary biomarkers in the early detection of oral cancer and the development of an artificial intelligence application for the diagnosis of oral lesions. Shah received her DDS from the University of Texas Houston School of Dentistry and completed her oral pathology residency at the New York Presbyterian Queens Hospital. She was previously faculty at New York University (NYU) and was appointed director of the NYU Oral Medicine Clinic. After leaving NYU, she maintained two clinical oral pathology private practices in New York City. Shah is active with the American Dental Association (ADA), serves as a Commission on Dental Accreditation site visitor for oral pathology residency accreditation and is also an appointed member of the Integrated National Board Dental Examination Test Construction Committee. She also promotes collaboration with the American Academy of Oral Medicine (AAOM) and has integral roles on the AAOM board of trustees. Shah is a well-recognized speaker and has been invited to give presentations and CE courses at numerous national meetings, including the ADA, Greater New York Dental Meeting and, most recently, American Cancer Society HPV Vaccination CE Series. She has presented numerous posters and abstracts, published several articles, and reviews manuscripts for several dental journals. Finally, Shah is an advocate of organized dentistry and serves as an ADA Nevada state delegate and is also chair of the CE Committee for the Southern Nevada Dental Society.
