David Roberts, DDS, earned his dental degree in 1985 from the University of Illinois College of Dentistry. Following dental school, he completed a two-year general practice residency at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (UTHSCSA) in 1987. He is a diplomate of the National Dental Board of Anesthesiology. He is a fellow of the American Association of Hospital Dentists. He has a certification from the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners in level 3 moderate sedation. He has been an adjunct assistant professor in the Department of General Practice at UTHSCSA. During his residency, he received training in dental and implant surgery as well as sedation procedures. He entered private practice in 1987, practicing a full scope of dental procedures. In 1996, he limited his practice to primarily exodontia and parenteral moderate sedation. During his career, he has worked in over 400 dental offices and has extracted approximately 150,000 teeth while moderately sedating over 30,000 patients. These past experiences bring a unique, real world general dental perspective in knowing the challenges general dentists face in offering these types of procedures to their patients. Roberts is a passionate advocate for our profession, having served in various capacities in dental organizations, including as president of the North Texas Dental Association and secretary/treasurer of the Dallas County Dental Society, from which he was was awarded Young Dentist of the Year in 1990. He has thrice been nominated as Texas Dentist of the Year by the Texas AGD (2004, 2009 and 2017).
