This workshop is an opportunity to develop and practice clinical techniques — with special emphasis on the mandible (including the Gow-Gates and Vazirani-Akinosi mandibular division block techniques), tips and tricks for conventional inferior alveolar regional nerve blocks, and single-tooth anesthesia injections without a nerve block. A complete maxillary division block will also be presented. Short lecture segments will present the anatomical landmarks and discuss the steps of individual nerve block techniques, followed by a clinical demonstration of the techniques. Participants will pair up to practice locating landmarks and walking through the techniques on each other. No actual injections will be given. Additional techniques will be discussed by participant request.
Learning Objectives:
Learn how to perform the Gow-Gates complete trigeminal mandibular division nerve block technique.
Learn how to perform the Vazirani-Akinosi closed-mouth trigeminal mandibular division nerve block technique.
Replicate a complete trigeminal maxillary division nerve block technique, the most efficient block for profound maxillary quadrant anesthesia.
Describe tips and tricks for greater success with the conventional inferior alveolar regional nerve block technique.
Locate landmarks for a technique that anesthetizes mandibular teeth using buccal and lingual infiltration injections rather than performing a nerve block injection.
