Musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) are significant problems affecting the physical and mental health, productivity and careers of dental professionals. The prevalence of MSDs is on the rise for all types of dental professions. The risk factors for MSDs are multifactorial and include personal strength, mobility, practice habits, instrumentation and more. Symptoms appear very early in careers and can escalate if dental professionals are not educated on risk factors and how to limit them. Ergonomic improvements, health promotion and interventions are necessary to reduce the risk amongst team members. Examining a wide variety of factors that influence our outcomes and analyzing contributing factors in our practice can help us prevent and treat our bodies for optimal longevity and wellness throughout our careers.
